I veicoli cava-cantiere diventano così veri e propri porta-attrezzi,
talvolta in condizioni estreme.
in presa diretta come sui veicoli stradali. Questa scelta è
voluta: nelle missioni cava-cantière impegnative, i veicoli
riduzione.
differenziale inter-ruote e inter-ponti. Nel corso del 2001,
Iveco presenterà un 8x4 "light" con ponte a
semplice riduzione e sospensioni pneumatiche, destinata in particolare
CV.
possono scambiarsi informazioni e trasmettere ordini l'una all'altra.
In occasione
L'insonorizzazione
e a lavaggi energici.

advantages for the customer 1 The Cursor 13 engine Iveco continues to extend its range of Cursor
engines; after the Cursor 8 (1998) and the Cursor 10 (1999),
in 2000 it is presenting the Cursor 13. There are now three completely
new Cursor engines which have no technical or industrial relationship
with the previous generation of engines, although they do share
the same concepts and achieve the same objectives: 1 1 The Cursor 13 engine - Summary of general characteristics The Iveco Cursor 13 is a 6 cylinder 12.9 litre turbocharged diesel engine (bore x stroke 135 x 150 mm), with extremely high pressure direct injection. The individual injector-pumps are activated by an overhead camshaft. Turboboost is provided by an innovative system: the variable geometry turbo (VGT) which also boosts the action of the decompression engine brake. Electronic management is applied to all engine functions (injection, advance, turbine geometry, engine brake control, speed correction), and it communicates with the vehicle's other electronic control units which manage the brakes, gearbox and auxiliary retarders. The Cursor 13 engine is available in two configurations on the EuroTrakker quarry and construction site range: The Cursor 13-380: Maximum power output:
380 Hp (280 kW) from 1500 to 1900 rpm The Cursor 13-380 is equipped with a turbo fitted with a Wastegate valve that adjusts turboboost pressure. The decompression brake (standard equipment) delivers a maximum of 150 kW (at 1900 rpm), practically equivalent to the exhaust brake horsepower of the previous 13.8 litre 8210 engine, which was acclaimed for its efficiency. The Cursor 13-440: Maximum power output:
440 Hp (324 kW) from 1450 to 1900 rpm The Cursor 13-440 is equipped with a variable geometry compressor. Aided by the turbine, the decompression brake (standard equipment) delivers a maximum of 240 kW (at 1900 rpm), on a par with that of the giant 14-15 litre American diesel engines. The choice of two different techniques for the turbo is perfectly justified on a heavy construction site vehicle. Depending on the difficulty inherent in its habitual working environment, if the vehicle has to work in highly critical conditions, the fleet manager will choose a 440 Hp Cursor. If on the other hand 380 Hp are sufficient, he will save money when purchasing his vehicle, because wastegate turbo technology is less expensive than that of a variable geometry turbo with electronic management. 1 2 The technology of the Cursor 13 engine in detail Iveco engineers had complete autonomy while designing the Cursor 13 as they had for the 7.8 litre Cursor 8 and the 10.3 litre Cursor 10. They chose technical solutions that were tried and tested on the two earlier engines in the range, adapting them to the new 12.9 litre unit. Injector-pump An engine designed to last for a long

and 2 1 The market Quarry and construction site vehicles are a particular category of road transport, which varies from market to market as a result of local use conditions and national laws. With 27,000 vehicles over 16 tonnes registered in 1999 out of a total of 233,000, the quarry and construction site sector lags far behind road vehicle volumes. In spite of this, the quarry and construction site range of a manufacturer such as Iveco, which is present in all European markets, is amazingly complex: vehicles with 2, 3 or 4 axles, all-wheel drive models, a range of power outputs that extends from 240 to about 500 Hp, truck and tractor versions, light, oversized and special models for specific types of outfits. Regional differences Road transport is gradually becoming homogenised in Europe because vehicles use the same roads and the EU's Highway Code establishes vehicle configurations and rules that are common from one country to another. In the building and public works sectors, transport covers short distances within a single country. It is therefore possible to exploit national weight and size requirements that are more favourable than European regulations. The differences in regional geography, the nature of the terrain and climate conditions result in configurations suited to each specific case. Even a driver's habits and the way construction sites are organised affects the definition of outfits. Apart from safety and emergency vehicles, all-wheel drive vehicles are not numerous in France and Italy, because site access is usually by well compacted dirt road, climate conditions guarantee firm ground texture and snow is very localised. On the other hand, German companies and local authorities are great users of 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles, with a limited load on the front axle. And the sandy nature of the ground in Holland, means that there 2, 3 and 4 axle box body vehicles all have drive wheels. Applications In Western Europe, the majority of quarry
and construction site vehicles are fitted with tilting box bodies
(62%), although there are also plenty of outfits like cement
mixers (19%) that require a specific vehicle configuration. Even
vehicles fitted with a simple flatbed tend to have at least a
handling crane. This means that quarry and construction vehicles
become real tool carriers, used by both local authorities and
public services. Whenever they have to operate outside the road
network, some emergency services, such as the Fire Brigade or
Civil Protection, will use all-wheel drive trucks derived from
construction site chassis and fitted with emergency equipment
or cranes. 2 2 The two families of quarry-construction vehicles All over Europe there are two categories of
use that correspond to two different classes of quarry and construction
site vehicles: Vehicles essentially for on-road use:
the Light models Vehicles for demanding uses: the off-road
models The special case of Italy 23 The Iveco EuroTrakker Cursor range. Technical features and innovations Iveco has developed two ranges to meet the expectations for quarry and construction site vehicles. The differences between the two ranges are the driveline (engines, transmission and rear axles), chassis and suspension. The choice of engines - the smallest, the Cursor 8, with power output
between 240 and 352 Hp, for Light quarry and construction site
vehicles, Iveco deliberately chose not to equip the heavier vehicles with the Cursor 10, which is the workhorse of the road range, in favour of the uphill starting and agility of the Cursor 13, and to guarantee optimal clutch durability. On the lighter vehicles, the Cursor 8 is about 236 kg lighter than the Cursor 10, and compensates for its limited torque with a geared down rear axle. All the Cursor engines are fitted with a decompression brake as standard equipment, whose effectiveness is boosted by the variable geometry turbo (Iveco Turbo Brake) on the Cursor 8 and 440 Hp Cursor 13. Maximum braking power is 170 kW on the Cursor 8 (at 2400 rpm), 150 kW on the Cursor 13-380, and 240 kW on the Cursor 13-440 (at 1900 rpm). The gearboxes are of the ZF Ecomid type on the engines with the lower power delivery, and 16-speed Ecosplit units with Servoshift from 352 Hp up. Iveco also offers the option of the EuroTronic 2 automated gearbox which envisages an automated gear change mode. The rear axles are of the double reduction type with epicyclic final drive to the hubs. A simple reduction rear axle is however available on Light 6x4 models for a lower kerb weight. The thickness of the chassis differs on Light and Off-road models. All the front axles of the partial drive vehicles are fitted with Knorr ventilated disc brakes. The drive axles and rear axles are fitted with drum brakes. Brake effort is adapted to the load by an electronic EBL module incorporated in the ABS control unit, which relies on signals coming from sensors on the wheels. ABS and EBL are both standard equipment. The electric wiring is of the CAN (Controller Area Network) type that allows coded signals to be exchanged by the electronic control units of the various systems, along the same wire. The cab on the EuroTrakker is the same as on the EuroTech, in all three versions: short, long and long with medium roof. The interior upholstery is designed for quarry and construction site use, the coil spring cab suspension was modified to improve comfort, and a transverse reaction bar was also added. The soundproofing (-1.5 dB[A]) and thermal insulation (+20%) were also improved. The cab panelling is galvanised on both sides, for better protection against corrosion. 2 4 The technology of the EuroTrakker vehicles in detail The engines: the Cursor 8 and Cursor 13 Performance of the Cursor 8 engine Variant Max.
power output Peak torque The torque and power curves are particularly suited to use in quarries and construction sites. For example, the Cursor 8-350 delivers a peak torque of 130 kgm between 1080 and 1930 rpm, and the maximum power output of 352 Hp is available from 1930 to 2400 rpm. Thanks to the variable geometry turbo, torque remains well below 1000 rpm: 101 kgm at 900 rpm and 79 kgm at 800 rpm. The torque values of the Cursor 8-350 may appear modest, but they are compensated by the gearing down of the transmission, which reaches the considerable value of 1:77 in 1st. This result is achieved with a ZF 16 S 151 gearbox, which has a ratio of 1:16.47 in 1st, and a standard rear axle ratio of 1:4.67. Performance of vehicles with the Cursor

internal and external dialogue A more comfortable cab Simplifying the assembly of bodywork - saving time, by avoiding conversion of the
basic vehicle to suit bodies and accessories, thus controlling
and reducing assembly costs; This policy was made possible by the flexibility
of manufacturing at the Iveco plant in Madrid, which allows the
vehicle to be customised right on the assembly line. The Iveco
salesman must cooperate closely with the customer and the bodybuilder
to define the preliminary outfit for the vehicle. For the end
user, this means a reduction in conversion costs and times, as
well as guaranteeing the reliability of the assembly. 2 5 The Iveco EuroTrakker Cursor range. General elements The 3 and 4 axle models come in two versions.
The Light versions work primarily on the road network and are
optimised for the maximum weights permitted by the European Highway
Code: 26 tonnes for vehicles with 3 axles and 32 tonnes for those
with 4. The Off-road versions are designed to be used in specific
sites, at the maximum of their technical capacity: 38 tonnes
for 6x4 and 6x6 vehicles, 41 tonnes for 8x4 models. These vehicles
are also destined to be exported to countries with Highway Codes
that are less restrictive than the European Code where total
weights are concerned. Details The 4x4 trucks are available with the same power outputs and three wheelbases from 3.8 to 4.5 metres. The names are of the MP190E38W type (in the 380 Hp version). 4x4 trucks are widely used to keep roads clean in Winter, fitted with a snow plough or salt sprayer, with front suspension, steering and tyre capacity upgraded to 9 tonnes. The Light 6x4 trucks are available with 270, 310 and 352 Hp engines, and they are known as the MP260E27H, MP260E31H and MP260E35H, the latter being particularly popular with French and Spanish customers. For users who need more power to tackle more demanding routes (the case of the German market) Iveco proposes the 380 or 440 Hp version of the Cursor 13 engine. There is a choice of six wheelbases: from 3.2 + 1.38 metres to 4.8 + 1.38 metres. 6x4 260 versions exist and are also available to carry cement mixers. The heavy 6x4 trucks have a chassis thickness of 10 mm and reinforced suspension attachments. The capacity of the suspension and tandem rear axles is 32 tonnes. The vehicles have a technical payload of 38 t. These models are known as MP380E38H and MP380E44H with the Cursor 13 engine. They are homologated for 33 tonnes and destined primarily for the Italian market. But there is also an MP380E35H for markets such as Spain and, to a lesser degree, Italy. The MP380s are also available in a cement mixer version, with a 33 tonne capacity. In this case they mount an 8 m3 cement mixer or a 6 cm3 unit with a cement pump. The 6x6 trucks are powered by either a 352 Hp Cursor 8 engine (MP260E35W) or the two variants of the Cursor 13, 380 Hp (MP260E38W) or 440 Hp (MP260E44W). They are permanent 6x6 versions with two-ratio gearing casing and torque transfer box between the front and rear axles. The differential can be locked when grip is poor. The Light 6x6 models, such as the MP260W, are widely used in Germany, while the 6x6 Off-road versions (the MP380E35 or MP380E44), meet the demands of the Spanish market. There is a choice of three wheelbases. The range of 8x4 trucks is similar to that of the 6x4 versions but, because of the total weight of 40 tonnes permitted in Italy and of 32 tonnes in the rest of Italy, the smallest engine is the 352 Hp Cursor 8 unit. Iveco proposes Light and Off-road models as well as cement mixer carriers. There is a choice of four wheelbases, from 4.25 + 1.38 metres to 5.82 + 1.38 metres. Purchasing trends in the various countries are similar to those of the 6x4. The 40 tonne 8x4 version has carved itself an important niche in the Italian market for quarry and construction site vehicles. The 8x8 truck was developed for the German market. In the new EuroTrakker range, this model is powered by the Cursor 13 engine, and is known as the MP410E42W. Torque is split between the two front axles by a locking differential on the second axle. For general exports and South America there are three models: a 6x4 MP380E38H, a 6x6 MP380E38W and an 8x4 MP410E38H, all powered by the 380 Hp Cursor 13. The main difference compared to the basic models lies in the gearbox, which is a ZF 16S221 OD instead of the ZF 16S151 OD. EuroTrakker tractors are available in 4x2, 6x4, 4x4 and 6x6 versions. The Cursor 8 engine only powers the 4x2 tractor (MP400E35HT). The other models are powered by the 380 Hp and 440 Hp Cursor 13. The 4x4 tractors are relatively new in the Iveco range and are most popular in Germany and Spain. The 6x4 tractors come in two types: the 44 tonne MP440E44HT and the MP720E44HT with a potential GCW of 72 tonnes. The latter has a 10 mm thick chassis. The 6x6 tractors are only available with the thicker chassis (MP720E38WT and MP720E44WT). The 720 models are also suitable as a base on which to outfit tractors for special loads. Special models: cement mixers 2 6 The EuroTrakker Cursor range: advantages for the customer Increased productivity, reduced running costs: Iveco's contribution to the profitability of public works companies The evolution of the EuroTrakker range has enabled IVECO to attain the objective of providing its customers with a more productive vehicle and with lower running costs. EuroTrakker customers are specialists in heavy
construction site work and are mainly involved in large scale
public works in heavy duty conditions. Customers therefore demand
of their vehicles the utmost reliability and resistance to stress,
considering the fast implementation times stipulated in works
contracts of this type. Productivity
is expressed directly through performance, the capacity to get
out of trouble, the payload and, indirectly, its permanent availability,
in other words reliability. - the increased payload guaranteed
by the Cursor 8 and Cursor 13 and the various components whose
weight has been optimised; by way of example we just have to
think that the new 4-axle cement mixer versions, appropriately
optimised, can weigh up to 700 kg less than the versions offered
in the previous range. Reliability Reduction of running costs can be seen day after day on the road, in the
lower fuel and oil consumption, and annually as an effect of: |

in Sachen Gewichtsbeschränkung bestimmt.
